GEORGIA CHILDREN’S MUSEUM AND ABC MACON KICK-OFF FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN WITH THE HELP OF OPRAH’S BIG GIVE
March 14, 2008 (MACON, GA) – The Georgia Children's Museum and ABC Macon are pleased to announce a gift to the Children’s Museum in the amount of $10,000 from ABC Macon. The gift is part of a larger $1,000,000 promotion with ABC and Oprah’s Big Give.
ABC affiliates around the country were challenged to give big and give back. In February, ABC Macon and The Georgia Children’s Museum presented a joint proposal to ABC. Macon was one of the 100 communities chosen and the only one in Macon that has been announced thus far. The funds will be used as seed money to purchase new exhibits for the Museum, including Recollections 4.5 by Ed Tannenbaum. Recollections, a fun light show based on interactive movement, will be housed in the Riverside Ford Black Box Theatre.
“We are so excited to have this partnership with ABC Macon,” says Mary Cay McCullough, Executive Director of The Georgia Children’s Museum. “Their support of the museum has been amazing. And of course, anything with Oprah’s name attached to it turns to gold.”
The challenge is for ABC MACON, The Georgia Children’s Museum and the Middle Georgia community to make the $10,000 grow into a larger amount of money for the museum. The campaign will include promotions on ABC MACON asking viewers to support the museum.
GCM will also have a component on their website allowing donors to make secure gifts on-line.
“When we were presented with this opportunity the first organization we thought of was The Georgia Children’s Museum. We feel that they are an asset to our community and we felt it was important to support them,” states Debbie Hart, ABC MACON Station Manager.
